Setting both short term and long term goals are an important part in any fitness program. For most of us, these goals are based on our physical appearance. The appearance of a lean athletic body is what motivates many to buy into any fitness plan. Lets face it, if it wasn't for the before and after pics on the P90x infommercial I may not be sitting here typing this entry today. But whether its P90x or some other exercise program - the bottom line is that with consistent workouts of adequate intensity and proper nutrition our bodies will change and at some point we need something else to motivate us. Here's just a few things I've learned from Tony at his fitness camps:
1. Skill based goals are important - they provide motivation when our physical goals are met.
2. Just by working out each day makes us healthier.
3. 20 min of cardio a day keeps our brains young (hippocampus). Read the book SPARK.
The reason why I like P90x is because it is basically 3 mini cycles that make up one 90 day macrocycle. It also provides a framework for both short term and long term goals and also it allows us to create our own mini and macrocycles (using P90x as a basic guideline) that are goal specific.
Most of my goals are running based and I will be posting my fifth round and how I am incorporating running into this program.
